Today I watched my daughter
Playing out in our front yard
All by herself so it seemed
Then I heard her whisper
"Has the kitty got your tongue"
"Oh I wish that you could talk to me"

Then I saw the friend
That she held gently in her hand
A little butterfly too scared to fly
She tossed it in the wind
And watched it flutter to the ground
Then gave these words of wisdom
To her friend as she knelt down

She said if my mommy and my daddy
Had made me a butterfly
I would fly above the mountains
Soaring through the sky
But I'm not a butterfly
I'm just a little girl
But I'll do the best I can
Make the most of my world

Though barely five years old
She made her daddy see
We can have all we want
If we only believe

As her friend took to flight
I seen it in her eyes
With her feet firmly on the ground
I watched my Becca fly

She said if my mommy and my daddy
had made me a butterfly
I would fly above the mountains
Soaring through the sky
But I'm not a butterfly
I'm just a little girl
But I'll do the best I can
Make the most of my world

She said if my mommy and my daddy
had made me a butterfly
I would fly above the mountains
Soaring through the sky
But I'm not a butterfly
I'm just a little girl
But I'll do the best I can
Make the most of my world

We should all
Do the best we can
Make the most of our world
